Advantages and development of airborne lidar

Airborne lidar technology, as emerging surveying, mapping and detection technology, has certain advantages compared with other surveying, mapping and detection technologies.

1) Airborne lidar technology is a technical means for actively surveying and mapping surface spatial information. Generally speaking, surveying, mapping and detection techniques can be divided into two categories: active and passive. The information acquired by passive surveying, mapping and detection technology comes from the electromagnetic wave information reflected by the target (such as sunlight) or the electromagnetic wave information radiated by the target itself. This type of measurement technology is affected and restricted by natural conditions such as weather and light. The airborne lidar technology is an active detection method. By actively launching laser pulses, the signal reflected by the detection target is obtained and the spatial information of the surface target is obtained by processing.

2) Airborne lidar technology can obtain spatial information quickly, with high efficiency and safe operation. The airborne lidar technology completes the detection work through the flight of the aircraft and the scanning of laser pulses, which can obtain large-area and large-scale surface space information in a short time, and the work efficiency is high. Compared with the traditional manual measurement technology, it greatly reduces the workload, shortens the time of field measurement, and improves the efficiency of detection work. The use of drones and other aircraft for detection can detect many more dangerous areas, ensuring the safety of operations.

3) The laser pulse emitted by the airborne lidar has a certain penetration effect on vegetation. When detecting areas such as forests, the branches and leaves of vegetation such as trees may be blocked, which will have a greater impact on the detection results.

4) The accuracy of data obtained by airborne lidar technology is high. The accuracy of data acquired by detection technology is an important aspect and index for evaluating the technology. Airborne lidar technology can quickly acquire the spatial coordinates of ground targets in a large area, and the acquired coordinates have high accuracy, ensuring the availability of data.

 5) The information provided by airborne lidar technology is relatively rich. Airborne LiDAR technology can not only calculate the three-dimensional space coordinates of ground targets, but also record the intensity information of ground targets. Some LiDAR systems can also record the number of echoes. Rich information provides more possibilities for the use of LiDAR data. Intensity information is closely related to the reflectivity of ground targets. Different objects have different reflection characteristics. Combining intensity information and three-dimensional coordinate information can be used to identify and classify detected targets. The number of echo information can also be used as a kind of auxiliary information.https://www.isurestar.net/
